How we calculate your ROI
Our calculator combines public benchmarks with sensible defaults to estimate what "doing nothing" costs your organization today.
Below is how we model the cost of running support without a help desk, with links to the sources we used.
What goes into your savings number
Two things drive your current cost of support: the people you pay to handle tickets, and the productivity lost by employees waiting for IT help. Our calculator multiplies these out using your team size, industry, and region to get a baseline.
Savings come from two places: tickets eliminated through self-service deflection, and faster resolution of the tickets that remain. Both effects are well-documented in industry research.
Where our defaults come from
Ticket volume benchmarks
Industry-specific ticket-per-employee rates come from HDI / MetricNet's benchmark research, which has tracked support metrics across thousands of organizations.
HDI: Tickets per User per Month →Support staff salaries
Salary defaults are based on US Bureau of Labor Statistics data for support roles (May 2024), multiplied by 1.3× to reflect fully-loaded costs including benefits, payroll taxes, and overhead.
BLS: Computer Support Specialists →Resolution time and productivity loss
We use Fixify's 2026 benchmark report (an analysis of over 50,000 real tickets across 30+ organizations) for resolution time and efficiency gain estimates. Wait time assumptions are based on Unisys research showing nearly half of employees lose multiple hours per week to IT issues.
Fixify: 2026 IT Help Desk Benchmark Report →Self-service deflection rates
Our deflection rate default (30%) sits in the middle of the widely-cited industry range of 20–35%, with 25–35% commonly given as a realistic target in the first year of implementation.
Industry consensus across analyst and vendor publications. We use lower-end estimates
Where a benchmark gives a range, we use the lower end. For example, public data puts median resolution time without structured tooling at around three working days per ticket; our default sits well below that. Your real numbers should come out better than our estimate, not worse.
You can override any default in the calculator's Advanced options to model against your own data.
